Moria

Originally called Khazad-dûm, Moria was the greatest underground kingdom of the Dwarves, located beneath the Three Peaks of the Misty Mountains. It was founded by Durin the Deathless in the First Age. The kingdom fell into darkness in the Third Age when the Dwarves delved too deep and awakened a Balrog, known as Durin's Bane. Renamed "Moria" (The Black Pit) by the Elves, it became a place of dread. The Fellowship of the Ring was forced to travel through its halls, leading to the legendary bridge battle where Gandalf the Grey fell into the abyss.
